Montserrat-Sant Jeroni

Walk Summary

First of 5 P600's Mick and I would do together over the next six days.
Originally meeting Mick on Puig Campana last May we have kept in touch and met today at Carrefour, Tarragona we drove straight here with the idea we would avoid the tourist path from Monestir de Montserrat by taking the more direct and of course more difficult route directly up Torrent de Santa Maria topping out slightly west of Ermita de Sant Jeroni.
Parking up at the side of the road I have to say I did not fancy it but went along with Mick to park his car in the Monestir de Montserrat car park to give us the most likely option of descending via the tourist route to the Monestir.
Returning in my van to the base of Torrent de Santa Maria I kept reminding myself of the mantra "...if one of us does not fancy it then neither of us do it". I use this to avoid me talking my walking buddy in to doing something daft. Turns out it worked the other way round.
So abandoning this route I decide to save myself €5 and park in layby near Sant Jaume el Blanc. Heading up the road to Monestir de Montserrat there was a distinct lack of signage to find the path up Sant Jeroni. Signs seemed more geared to the architecture, hotel and funicular railway which could save a fair amount of ascent but in my mind not the best option.
Having found the path it was a straight forward albeit steep ascent up the obvious path which, particularly at the beginning, had lots of concrete steps.
