Rhobell Fawr & Dduallt

Walk Summary
Over the ladder stile.
Rain on camera lens as get first clear sight of Rhobell-y-big
Smashing day virtually as planned, with rain clearing on drive to Cwm yr Allt-lŵyd giving bright skies and a walk in to the sun up Rhobell Fawr.Once again, what is becoming a feature of walks on this trip, a long drive down a very narrow road to the head of the Cwm and walk start point.
This time it was Cwm yr Allt-lŵyd and once again the 10mph restriction gave the opportunity to appreciate unexpected view points accentuated by the fine Autumn colours.
Setting off from adequate off road parking, which is not always guaranteed at the end of these remote Cwms, up a fairly steep farm track following a PROW. Staying with the PROW until the ladder stile then turn right crossing feeder stream to Afon Mawddach before heading for the now clearly visible  summit Rhobell-y-big. The first of the five a day.

Fast flowing knee deep water at ford over
Afon Mawddach in spate. Soggy feet time.
Beyond this it is free range walking/route finding over easy(ish) ground to the next two summits of Rhobell Ganol and the first of two Nuttalls Rhobell Fawr.
All pretty much as planned to this point as is the remainder of the walk. The difference being on the remaining part of the walk it would maybe have been better to have varied from the plan, just a little in the forest to the west of Dduallt by staying with the track through the forrest rather than the non-existant fire breaks.
Descent from Dduallt was the only variation from the plan trying to cut off a corner and find a more direct rout to the final summit of Ffridd yr Allt-llwyd. This time it would have been better toi have stuck with the plan staying with the descent along the wall for longer before cutting across to the ford across Afon Mawddach.

A little further down Ffridd yr Allt-llwyd van comes in to view
+ initial zig-zag ascent; lower, centre, left
After the previous nights rain the ground was saturated resulting in ankle deep squelch and a calf deep crossing of the only suitable Afon Mawddach crossing place. The descent down Ffridd yr Allt-llwyd returning to Cwm yr Allt-lŵyd soon revealed the van and walk start point as well as the initial steep ascent up the initial zig-zagging PROW. No time to get the legs working but so what, chance to get first wind early in the walk.

So in summary:-
Bush wacked in forest on west of Ddduallt during ascent, boggy NW descent of Dduallt across ankle deep bog and knee deep water at ford over Afon Mawddach in spate after previous nights heavy rain. Soggy feet time. Yep - Smashing day out.
