Walk Summary
At 5.5 miles walked with 700m of ascent, completed in just under 4 hours made this an excellent choice for the first walk of the trip.
A little more awkward to get to from Pen-y-Pas YH than Carnedd Llewelyn, Yr Elen & Pen yr Helgi Du, the other route under consideration, but combined with a late(ish) start the 1300m of ascent and 10 miles would have been a bit of a challenge to complete in daylight hours.
Better to save for a later date when I am fitter and have acquired my hill legs.
Fairly uneventful walk with unmarked paths on the map along the summit ridge, although fairly rugged, were easy enough to follow.
Conversely the PROW's marked on the map as a green dotted line and planned to be used as the ascent route from the van were problematic to find or where they could be found had been rerouted for example around Hendre.
Well as we all learn fairly quickly but are usually (always) surprised to find is the case; the green dotted lines are real in the minds of the map makers but do not always correspond exactly where they are on the ground.
The only real disappointment was not identifying Crimpiau as a sub-HuMP and therefore not including it on the route plan. So frustrating to get home and find I was only about 300m away from a worthy summit.
